The methods outlined in this guide should also work for Windows 7, Windows 8 and above but since the UIs keep changing we can’t guarantee it. In our limited testing, we were able to replicate these on other versions of Windows apart from Windows 10 as well. 

How to Disable Windows 10 Password Expiration Notification

There are multiple methods in which you can get rid of Windows 10 password expiration notification and disable it. The ones that work well are:

Disable Windows 10 Password Expiration Notification using Computer Management

  • From the desktop, right-click on This PC (My Computers) and click on Manage.
  • Look for Local Users and Groups and click on it and then click on Users.
  • On the right-hand side, you will see your user account. Double click on it to open the properties.
  • In the General tab, look for the Password never expires option and ensure the checkbox is ticked. 
  • Finally, click on the Apply and OK button to save the changes.

The Windows 10 password expiration notification will now disappear. You can enable it again by following these steps in the reverse order. 

Disable Windows 10 Password Expiry Notification via User Accounts

  • At first, press the Windows Key + R together to open the Run dialog-box. 
  • Next, type netplwiz in the box and press Enter key.
  • A User Account window will now open. Go to the Advanced tab and click on the button that says Advanced under Advanced user management.
  • Again a new window will now open, here click on Users, and from the right-hand side double click on your user account.
  • Now from the General tab, look for a checkbox that says Password never expires and ensures that it is ticked.

  • Finally, click on the Apply and then OK button. 

Once all of these steps are performed, reboot your system to check if you were able to successfully disable password expiration notification in Windows 10. 

Disable Password Expiration Notification in Windows 10 using Command Prompt

  • First of all, press the Windows key and search for CMD. Once you see the command prompt, right-click on it and select the Run as administrator option.
  • Once the Command Prompt window opens, give type the following command:

wmic UserAccount where Name=’XYZ’ set PasswordExpires=False

Important note: Replace the Name=’XYZ’ with your own Windows username.

  • Once you modify and paste the command, hit enter and let it execute.

After the command successfully executes, you will notice that Windows 10 password expiration notification is now gone and it won’t pester you again.

Change Windows 10 Password Expiration Time using the Group Policy

  • At first, press the Windows + R keys together and type gpedit.msc in the Run dialog, and then hit enter.
  • The Group Policy Editor will open, click on Local Computer Policy, and under that click on Computer Configuration.
  • Under Computer Configuration, look for Windows Settings under which you will find Security Settings.
  • Now look for Account Policies and finally go to Password Policy.
  • On the right-hand side, you will now find the Maximum password age and Minimum password age.

  • Simply, double-click on it one by one, and under Password will expire in: box change it to 365 days or whatever you see fit. 
  • Finally, click on the Apply and OK button to save the changes.

Your system will not give you the password expiration notification anymore until the next time the days you put in expire.
